Ahadith on Ramadan

The following are ahadith on Ramadan from various Sunni and Shia sources. The month of Ramadan is the Holy month in which Allah(SWT) first revealed the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). These ahadith touch on both just how special the this month is and some of its unique qualities.
Note: I am not a hadith scholar. I have tried to the best of my efforts to avoid using legalistic hadith. Any hadith I post should not be used to deduce a ruling from in and of itself, nor should one attempt to do such without the proper knowledge or guidance of a scholar grounded in the traditions.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.” (Sahih Bukarhi, Book 31, Chapter 3, Hadith 123)

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him, and Gabriel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Holy Qur’an to Gabriel, and when Gabriel met him, he used to be more generous than a fast wind (which causes rain and welfare). (Sahih Bukarhi, Book 31, Chapter 3, Hadith 126)

Narrated Abu Bakra: The Prophet said, “The two months of `Id i.e. Ramadan and Dhul−Hijja, do not decrease (in superiority). (Sahih Bukarhi, Book 31, Chapter 3, Hadith 136)

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Islam has been built on five [pillars]: testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the salah (prayer), paying the zakat (obligatory charity), making the hajj (pilgrimage) to the House, and fasting in Ramadhan.” (Imam Nawawi’s Forty Haith, Hadith 3)

Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) said: “Surely, the month of Ramadan has been named so because it scorches away the sins.” (Kanz alUmmal, H: 23688)

Imam Reza (A.S.) has said: If one asks, “Why is it that the fasts were made obligatory exclusively in the month of Ramadan and not in the other months?” it would be said, “(this is) because the month of Ramadan is the month in which Allah, the Exalted, had revealed the Holy Quran.” (Bihar alAnwar, vol. 18, pg. 190)

Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) was asked: O’ Prophet of Allah! Which of the two months possesses a greater reward, Rajab or the month of Ramadan?
Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) replied: Nothing can be compared to the month of Ramadan in terms of reward. (Bihar alAnwar, vol. 97, pg. 49)

Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) said: Shaaban is my month and the month of Ramadan is the month of Allah, The Exalted, and it is the springtime for the poor. (Bihar alAnwar, vol. 97, pg. 68)
